George Ryerson resided at Foster's Meadow, near Hempstead, L.I., of which in the community he was a much respected and considered an influential Citizen. He served as a Lieutenant in the Militia.

He like many other old Dutch settlers was very indifferent as to how he spelled his name. We find two or three different spellings sometimes on the same instrument, and his signature is found to be written Rierson, Riason, Reison, Reirson,Riorson, Ryerson and Roierson.

He was a farmer and extensive property owner.

He died between 1744 and 1788, for we find in the "Annuals of Hempstead," by Onderdonk, the following notice: Mar 21, 1778.

"A Pleasant farm of two hundred acres, late of George Ryerson of Foster's Meadow, was sold at venue, Peter Ryerson and Gilbert Van Wyck,Executors."
